Avalon

[English version of this article, here]

Sabes, ¿no?

Ayer bajé a Gløshaugen.

Me encanta.

Risas...

Pues sí.
O sea, no... Pero estoy en ello.

Today has been my first day of Erasmus.

Well, no. Actually I arrived in Trondheim roughly a month ago, now.
But today has been My First Day.
D'you know, huh? It's kinda' like you feel a little bit in your place... There's still something missing, of course, but today it's been cool, I've felt well tih myself, and with the environment, which is very important.

Yesterday I went down to Gløshaugen. I had a class, from 12 to 14. Relaxed morning. Then I came up again to Moholt, and I fixed lunch. In the afternoon, I finally met my Norwegian "buddy". Actually, he's of Indian origin, completely. And with Portuguese surname. We went to one of the two "friki" shops in town.

I'm loving it. Trondheim is a town with 150,000 inhabitants, the third biggest population in Norway, and there are two "friki" shops, in the very center: one, Outland, in Munkegata; the other, Avalon, in Kongens Gate. In Valencia, city of 800,000 inhabitants and the third in Spain, for buying mangas i have to go to a little store in Chinatown, very well stocked, that must be said, but in a really narrow street, and that nobody sees you getting there. Here, completely the other way round. Everything, with no complexes.

It turns out that Avalon has closed their shops in Oslo and Bergen, but the one in Trondheim will remain open. So they have brought all the stock from Oslo and Bergen to the shop here. And of course, as it doesn't fit, they're in crazy sale, because they need to get rid of lots of stuff. Role-playing books, which in Spain cost 35-45€, here at 5€. Really thick fantasy novels, lots of sagas, have Elric, Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, TLotR, and hundreds which I had never heard about, treaties about Tolkien and Middle Earth, biographies, beast compendiums, fantasy worlds encyclopediae, etc... at sale price: two volumes, whichever, 100 NOK (12€), 5 volumes 200NOK (24€), 8 volumes 300NOK (36€)... any 8 volumes, from 5 or 6 bookshelves, packed with lots of interesting stuff!!! And then, tons of pocket books, of adventures and epic fantasy, for 20NOK (2.4€). Amazing.

So, this afternoon I went back to Avalon, with more time to see. At 18.00, when they were closing, I was coming out from there to Moholt with my backpack full and two bags hanging from the bike's handlebar. A stroll around the city, lively, few cars, many bikes, and quite many pedestrians. The bags jumped on the paving, bells rang, and seagulls flew. Well, they are no gulls; they're something like giant cormorants... And way back up, to Moholt.

At 19.00 I was cooking dinner: two nice slices of salmon, grilled, garnished with asparagus and mushrooms. Delicious.

At 20.30, Movie Night at the basement. Oh, yeah. It turns out that there's an organization in Norway, ISU. International Students Union. It has branches in almost every city. I don't know very well how (well, I do know, but it'd be long to explain...) I ended up being on it, and now I am the Movies Coordinator in Trondheim. So, Wednesdays and Sundays, at 20.30, movies in the ISU basement. Today I showed Cube, a classical.

At 23, back home, and tired after a fullpack day, and tremendously Norwegian.

Some Spanish friends told me in the afternoon:
- Hey, it's cold today, huh, where are you going in shorts?
I answered:
- No way! It's a fantastic day today, and also was yesterday, it's being very nice.
- Well, yeah, it's sunny, but it's cold, huh!!
- No way, man, it's great outside!!
- Boh, what happens is that you're already Norwegian.
Laughter...

And yeah.
I mean, no... But I'm on my way.
