La conocí en un día lluvioso

^

"I met her on a rainy day...

I had drunk a few beers, and although somebody had told me (good things) about her, the truth is I wasn't in the mood to get to know her...

However, the fact that she spoke English and me speaking Spanish wasn't a big issue, since we eventually started speaking the same language...

She told me about the Day the Earth Stood Still and how Gort was holding Patricia Neal in its arms (you know, Klaatu barada nikto...). She reminded me Flash had only fourteen hours to save Earth, that Claude Rains was wearing my favorite pair of glasses so that you couldn't see any holes in the gaps of the bandages on his eyes, and that the Empire State Building can hold the weight of a colossal ape climbing its antenna. Later, she confessed to me her love for Anne Francis. Then it was when I started falling for her...

We could have been talking for hours and hours about science fiction films, but she surprised me again when she spoke about people who seem to be one thing but they really are another, about hidden carnal desires, nondisclosable sex, jealousy and death, megalomaniac and egocentric personalities, the importance of accomplishing your dreams... she talked to me about the moment when a man opens his eyes and becomes a transvestite, and about the quality of insects of the human race.

The date ended soon, almost as it had started. It seemed like time had barely moved an inch between her arrival and her depart. But it was enough. Nothing would ever be the same again. It was enough for wanting to see her many more times. Enough for beleiving in love at first sight..."

Merci, Guille, for introducing her to me, and for writing the original text for me, and for us.
Mercy, for the minimum, slightest, adaptation.
